Well, this thing needs work. But I haven't had any photos lately so I thought I'd put it up. And besides, I procrastinate so much that I really need to push myself to get things done. Maybe this will help. On the other hand, I usually re-write dozens of times and end up with basically the same thing - sometimes probably not as good as the original. So here goes...
WE CAN ALL SEE YOUR LIPS MOVE
I am a newspaper
not just folded and yellowed and cracking around the edges,
but a thing of the past entirely
an 8 track or a standard cassette
I am unwanted
what's been left behind
I am finally "uncool"
I am not super-fast, clean, nor precise
And I sure as hell don't fit in here! (rolls eyes)
I am, in fact, rotting (rotting on the vine?)
And we as a group, the elderly (elders?)
we go about our business
invisible (Ralph Ellison)
away from the fast lane
But there's something to be said
for all those old things
the forgotten and discarded
rotting and left out in the rain
disposeable? Hmmm, now there's a question!
there's art in the junkyard and there's heart in these things
the smell of vinyl
the feel of paper
the way the tape runs so steadily off the cassette spool (magnetized! - LAUGHS - who ever thought of that?)
onto a pile on the floor (the cleanup, the mess, that's the issue now, isn't it?)
But we all crap
We all start as babies
Our lives expand and contract like a balloon filled to the point of bursting with the breath of life
and then slowly allowed to drain
Circle of life
The 12 x 12 pictures,
the marks and the scratches
it's all art in a way
like the grain in a piece of wood
You need only look...
Open the pod bay door, Hal, will ya? It's cold as #$%^ out here and I'd like to come in.
I thought you might understand.
all of the things we've dismissed as
not important anymore
all of the speed we want to just get us there faster
it's all putting the cart before the horse again
when you get there
it's only death
